What is the Contractor State License Board?

The Contractor State License Board (CSLB), which is a part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs, is in charge of informing consumers of their rights and responsibilities when it comes to hiring and managing building contractors.
The board licenses nearly 300,000 contractors throughout the state to ensure that construction is performed in a safe and confident manner.
Businesses and individuals who construct or alter any building, highway, road, parking facility, railroad, excavation, or other structure in California must be licensed to perform work if the total cost (labor and materials) of one or more contracts on the project exceeds $500.
This way, if you have an issue with your contractor, then the CSLB can assist you with filing a complaint. While most contractors are honest, hardworking professionals, you still must protect yourself.
You can check a contractor’s identification and license number as well as see whether your contractor is properly bonded.
